Badging Unit (BU) Overview

The Badging Unit (BU) is primarily responsible for providing professional customer service to all visitors while operating a public counter and verifying all documentation presented (including forms, identification and employment eligibility) in order to process all authorized fingerprint and badge requests.

The public counter consists of one (1) information desk used to greet visitors and answer questions or direct customers to the appropriate line for processing, ten (10) counter stations used for data entry and taking photos for fingerprint and badge processing, five (5) live scan fingerprint stations used to process fingerprint requests and one (1) print station used to print and activate all badges being issued.

In addition, we administer the daily Restricted Area Driver (RAD) qualifying exam and administer the Badge Online Appointment System (BAOS). Fingerprint Administration and Adjudication Unit (FAAU) Overview

The Fingerprint Administration and Adjudication Unit is divided into three (3) distinct, but related processes as follows:

Q Fingerprint Administration – Management of all facets of the fingerprint process flow pursuant to the fingerprinting of applicants. This includes fingerprints administered for the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badges, the Terminal Identification Cards (TIC), and the Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint process for all City of Los Angeles Airport Employees.

Q Fingerprint Adjudication – Management of all FBI-based fingerprint records that are returned with criminal data that have to be adjudicated, pursuant to 49 CFR 1542.209.

Q Security Threat Assessment (STA) Administration – Management of all aspects of the Security Threat Assessment program. This involves the close monitoring of the STA status of fingerprint applicants to ensure compliance with TSA directives.

Enrollment and Contract Management Unit (ECMU) Overview

The Enrollment and Contract Management Unit (ECMU) is responsible for enrolling new entrant companies into the Security Badge Program, maintaining existing companies by processing contract extensions and completing company name changes.  We are required to verify operational need for security access, ensure issuance of all required airfield permitting and validate acceptable insurance levels for each contract to mitigate any possible airport liability. In addition, we conduct a work site visit with each company to determine the appropriate level of access needed to fulfill all contractual obligations.

Security Access and Analysis Unit (SAAU) Overview

The Security Access and Analysis Unit (SAA Unit) is responsible for monitoring and granting restricted area access throughout the airport.  Additional access based on an operational need may be obtained through the SAA Unit .  Within this website you will find information on how to request additional access. All requests for access should be sent to saaunit@lawa.org for processing.

In addition, the SAA Unit is responsible for the administration of Security Badge Office training.  Currently the Security Badge Office presents SIDA Security “train the trainer”, Authorized Signer and Authorized Signer Refresher courses.  Please contact your Badge Coordinator at (424) 646-5500 for information on registering for a class.

Regulatory Audit & Coordination Unit (RACU) Overview

The Regulatory Audit and Coordination Unit (RACU) is responsible for client outreach, support and auditing.  The unit provides information to all organizations maintaining security badges at LAX, VNY & PMD via email, U.S. mail, or utilization of web based operations.  RACU is also responsible for conducting federally mandated badge accountability audits, administers the badge billing process and provides online report status for authorized signers.  In addition, RACU is responsible for the post enrollment duties for all, in-flight catering companies, vendors and concession organizations doing business at the airport.
